A Moment Of Clarity

While looking through youtube videos of live performances i stumble across this comment by a person "5Cincinnatus" to be exact.

And he made a very good point in a video where people were arguing about who's better drummer than who and so on.

Here is what he said modified by myself because the person was American and didn't make a normal sentence.

"I Dont think you or anyone in fact is qualified to say "who is the best drummer". As no one should say who is the best painter in the world because painting is art. Music is art. And art is not a competition"

Now some of you may be wondering what a lap steel bass actually is or looks like and to be honest im not sure if thats what it is even called although i have named it the lap steel bass because it works on the same principle as a lap steel guitar.Them Crooked Vultures played Perth's Challenge Stadium on Tuesday night.

Edit: Oh By the way thats a 12 string bass too

"But every person in the crowd desperately wanted to be there, perhaps to witness a part of rock history that may never be repeated".

Well Tuesday the 19th of January brought one of the worlds newest "super bands" (Due to the fact they were from super groups already) to the shores of Australia and to Challenge Stadium for their first show on the Australia/ New Zealand shore.

The show brought together a mixture of people from the old rockers that were there to see JPJ and then the younger fans of the Queens Of The Stone Age and one similarity between all these people was the love of music and rock and roll and most probably Dave Grohl.

As we arrived about halfway through the support act which sounded pretty decent but we were not going to sit down and watch them as we knew it would be a while. So we went into the outside alcohol section which i managed to enter without any second glances once again.

As the support band finished their set we walked inside to get ready for Them Crooked Vultures (TCV). As the suspense of the sound check grew bigger and bigger so did the crowd as the floor was full and only a few empty seats.

With the rock and roll talents of people such as John Paul Jones, Dave Grohl & Josh Homme you would expect a huge dramatic entrance but no, the three of them plus another awesome guitarist (dont know name) just saunter on to stage to thunderous applause.

Now how could i explain the concert?

Well if anyone is aware of TCV's CD you would know how "dense" and "full on" their sound is and man it was LOUD. It wasn't a bad loud it was just very in your face loud and i some how knew in advance that people from Led Zeppilin, Nirvana & QoTSA were hardly going to be "lets play quietly" people.

Now how was the music playing?

Well i think if you have Dave Grohl & JPJ driving the band on drum and bass you could play anything over the top and it would still sound awesome. But they were not just playing crap over the top they were playing rocking and funky rifts over the top. Now i find once way to know if a band is a good one is to see how much they sound like live compared to their CD and let me tell you that it was nearly identical except for the awesome break downs and double time sections by Dave.

If there was a flaw with the concert and there was only one that Josh's lyrics did get a bit lost in the noise as he sings in the same key as his guitar and he did get a little carried away at the end but the crowd just loved it.

Now for some highlights from the show in my opinion:

Well for one just seeing it was a big one

Seeing the class of Dave Grohl & JPJ on the same stage rocking out together

Watching JPJ play many different instruments, including an 8 string bass, Lap steel bass, key-tar & piano. He was amazing at piano which came to me as a big surprise as he did a 5min piano solo near the end of the show.

But for me the best highlight in the show was when Josh introduced the band about half way through, there was a loud cheer for the other guitarist, a louder one for himself, a huge one that you would expect for a whole band for Dave Grohl but when he introduced JPJ the roof was nearly blown off the building.

So in conclusion one of the most awesome shows, many people think that it would be hard to out do Dave Grohl on the same stage but it was done and it was amazing. Now i've seen a hell of a lot of concerts but i would probably rate this one equal second behind Roger Waters, and equal with the RHCP because it was an awesome night and probably the first and last time to see a member of Led Zep.

Now i would strongly recommend that you go out and listen to their album or perhaps not because then you would have realised you missed one of the best nights i have had in a long time.

And I also picked up a T-Shirt which was awesome as well as being reasonable for a band shirt

PS: If you dont know who John Paul Jones, Dave Grohl are i think you better have a big ass ladder so you can get out of the whole you have been living in for your whole life :P

Racism, It Sells

Now we all know the KFC ad that got banned for being "racist" according to the Americans.

If you live in a nuclear bunker and haven't seen it here it is

Hmmmmm... Racist?

Now thanks to some of our South African friends they drew our attention to this particular Nandos ad. Which personally i find a tad more racist but also extremely funny.

Enjoy

Queens of the Led Fighters....

Them Crooked Vultures.

A newly formed band similar to chicken foot where all members have come from different bands.
As you could probably work out from the title where the members are from, if not

Joshua Homme-Guitarist/Singer (Formally of the Queens Of The Stone Age)
John Paul Jones-Bass (Formally of LED ZEPPELIN)
Dave Grohl - Drums (Formally of Nirvana, Foo Fighters)

So their self titled debut album came out late last year and so far has been very popular with the people who are fans of the Foo's, Led or QOTSA.

What's my opinion I hear you ask?

My answer is pretty simple, THEY ROCK

If you are a fan of any of the bands mentioned above i recommend you check out their website that has some exclusive details, videos etc that you would expect to find on a website.
