Photos Of The Holiday

Here a few of the best photos that I took while on holiday

Enjoy :-)

Enlarge the pictures for better quality

Above: Hanging out of the window on the train going to the dutch forted city of Galle

Above: Taken from the train window. I think what makes this a good photo rather than one of just the beach in the background is the reflection in the little inlet at the bottom.

We rented some surfboards for a morning or two so I was down on the beach taken a few shots of the "surfer dudes" and the surrounding landscape because i got bored of taking pictures of them lying on their bellies.

Above: Looking towards the west to the point of the coast covered by huge palm trees, (Owned by the Dilmah tea company if anyone was wondering) although I think the contrast between the dark green leaves in focus and the glarey out of focus background works well in this situation.

Above: PD. James in action capturing the target coming in on a wave. Probably not the greatest quality but i think i got the "look" i was going for, with the subject being in the centre and in focus while the surrounding objects where somehow less significant.

Above: Although a very simple shot of the waves lapping at the beach, i find that these types of photographs are always very profound in their beauty although i would have preferred to have a breaking wave on the beach but unfortunately the waves broke quite a way out in the ocean.

Above: Sorry, I had to put the cliche photo in here of the hard day surfing on the beach. Gnarly though :P

Now these two remaining photos are my best that i probably have ever taken with a camera and i was extremely surprised of how they came out, as i had a general idea what i wanted to do but i didn't think they would come out the way they did.

Above: I think the contrast of the white water with the brown sand and stone wall really captures the viewers eye as well as the fact that the water is slightly more in focus than the wall on the left

Above: My favourite photo of the trip, same location as the one above just zoomed out which i believe encapsulates the landscape more and in turn creates a nicer photo. The way the rock on the right and the wall on the left, frame the photo draw the eye to the breaking waves which contrast to the lush green on the flax plant on top of the wall.

Well there good ones i took during the holiday, im sure i will put up more general ones a bit later.

I would love to hear what you guys think about the photos and my talking crap about what i think it does with contrast, framing etc because i have no idea :)

  1. james these pictures are amazing! they look so good, i really like the one of the waves lapping on the beach, the shades in that are absolutely amazing, and that last one looks so good, the colour, but i'm guessing they cant really do justice to actually being there?
